Versatile, No-Weld Handrailing & Framework Systems

Key clamp fittings (also known as tube clamps or pipe clamps) provide a flexible, modular alternative to welded tubular structures. Ideal for safety handrailing, DDA-compliant ramps, pedestrian guardrails, storage racking, and industrial site furniture, key clamp systems combine maximum structural integrity with simple, rapid assembly on site.

How Key Clamps Work: Hex-Key Fastening System

  • Simple Hex-Key Locking: Every fitting features an internal stainless steel set screw that tightens directly against the steel tube using a standard Allen key or ratchet. This creates a high-torque, friction-lock connection capable of supporting heavy structural loads without damaging the tube surface.
  • Modular Adaptability: Because no hot works or specialized tools are required, structures can be modified, expanded, or dismantled on site at any time. Components can be reused, making key clamps an extraordinarily cost-effective solution for both temporary site barriers and permanent safety installations.

Understanding Tube Sizes & Standards

Key clamp fittings and galvanized steel tube are produced in standard nominal bore sizes to ensure full interoperability across systems. Choosing the correct size depends on the required load capability and application. Here at Barrier Base, we only provide Size 8 components:

  • Size 6 / B34 (33.7mm OD): Lightweight frameworks, garment racks, and secondary handrails.
  • Size 7 / C42 (42.4mm OD): The industry standard size for general safety handrails, balustrades, and pedestrian guardrails.
  • Size 8 / D48 (48.3mm OD): Heavy-duty applications, structural barriers, industrial scaffolding, and high-load safety barriers.

Corrosion Resistance & DDA Compliance

All Barrier Base key clamps and steel tubes undergo hot-dip galvanisation to BS EN ISO 1461, delivering outstanding long-term protection against outdoor weathering, rust, and harsh industrial environments.
